The existing space forms part of the iconic Heritage Square in Cape Town’s CBD. This square is located in a vibrant social area of the city which is home to many popular bars and restaurants. The nightclub (The Darling) is a new sister to a popular existing restaurant named Zsa Zsa, where the client conceptualized the idea of the spaces interacting with one another – When customers have finished with their dining experience, they have the option to navigate up to the nightclub to continue with the festivities.
The existing floor, open trusses and ceilings had to remain due to legal requirements, where existing white bagged plaster on the walls was removed to expose old clay bricks.
The primary request in the brief was that the bar be the main feature within the space. With the inclusion of 52 (50W RGB LED) lights, a Perspex substructure and a stone countertop with translucent quartz crystals, we managed to light the entire bar up where the colour could be adjusted to suit whatever theme may be required.
